Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA)

A crown agency of the Government of Alberta, the AFA was established in 1991 with a mandate to support and contribute to the development of the arts in Alberta. The AFA provides grant funding to artists and art organizations to encourage the growth and development of the arts sector. It also promotes the arts and manages an extensive art collection, valued at over $10 million, featuring work from artists all over the province.

Calgary Arts Development Authority (CADA)

CADA plays a leadership role to promote, foster and direct investments that develop the capacity of Calgary's arts sector to achieve public and artistic impact.

As the city's designated arts development authority, CADA is a central hub that learns about, promotes, connects, advocates for, and leads strategic initiatives in the arts to animate Calgary as a vibrant cultural centre. CADA allocates municipal funding for the arts provided by The City of Calgary through granting programs that support operations and innovation for more than 190 arts organizations in Calgary.

Canada Council for the Arts

The Canada Council offers a broad range of grants and services to professional Canadian artists and arts organizations in music, theatre, writing and publishing, visual arts, dance, media arts, and integrated and circus arts – fostering and promoting the arts in Canada since 1957.

Edmonton Arts Council (EAC)

The Edmonton Arts Council is a not-for-profit organization that supports and promotes the arts community in Edmonton. The EAC works to increase the profile and involvement of arts and culture in all aspects of our community life through activities that: 

  •  Invest in Edmonton festivals, arts organizations and individual artists through municipal, corporate and private funding.
  • Represent Edmonton’s arts community to government and other agencies and provide expert advice on issues that affect the arts.
  • Build partnerships and initiate projects that strengthen our community.
  • Create awareness of the quality, variety and value of artistic work produced in Edmonton.

Grantmakers in the Arts (GIA)

The mission of GIA is to provide leadership and service to advance the use of philanthropic resources on behalf of arts and culture. The goals of GIA include providing information, research, communication and convening opportunities. Additionally, GIA has a goal of public policy and advocacy, serving as a source to nationally disseminate information on why artists and arts organizations are valued tools for community economic, educational and cultural revitalization.

Philanthropic Foundations Canada (PFC)

PFC promotes the growth and development of effective and responsible foundations and organized philanthropy in Canada through provision of membership services, resources and advocacy. We seek to support Canadian philanthropy and our members by:

  • encouraging public policies that promote philanthropy
  • increasing awareness of philanthropy’s contribution to Canadians’ well-being
  • providing opportunities for foundations to learn from each other
