Nine Arts Managers from across Alberta have been nominated for the 2010 Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management

ROSE BROW

Rose joined the Quest Theatre team in 1998 as the Tour Coordinator.  In 2001 she was appointed Managing Director and has since led the company to 8 years of financial and organizational success.  Rose has a keen understanding of the pivotal role arts management plays in producing dynamic and compelling theatrical work.  Under her leadership, Quest Theatre has twice received the Alberta Performing Arts ENCORE AWARD given in recognition of “Outstanding Business Practices Supporting Artistic Excellence”.     

LINDSAY A DANN

Lindsay has been both the Founding Director and Executive Producer of Globalfest based in Calgary since 2003, and a producer and manager of special events for over 30 years.  Lindsay successfully united the Fireworks Festival Society with the International Avenue Arts and Culture Centre to create the annual multi-ethnic cultural and artistic GlobalFest celebration which attracts an audience of 100,000 people.  The outstanding show of support from Calgarians over the last seven years has ensured the continuing success of GlobalFest.

ANN LEWIS-LUPPINO

Ann Lewis-Luppino is a passionate lover of the arts and a strategic businesswoman with over 30 years of experience in the for- and not-for-profit sector. In 2006 she was appointed President and CEO of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, a diverse and respected member of Canada’s most valued arts organizations. In this role she is dedicated to fiscal sustainability while supporting artistic excellence and building strong networks and partnerships with stakeholders. During her 3-year tenure as President, the CPO has posted 3 consecutive balanced budgets and has enjoyed steady audience growth.

SCOTT MCTAVISH

Since being named Executive Director of the Pumphouse Theatre in 2001, Scott has successfully implemented a strategic management plan of short and long term growth; succeeding in re-branding and repositioning the organizations mission to reintroduce it to Calgary’s contemporary audience.  With a vision of the Pumphouse Theatre as a community hub, Scott is now spearheading a $10 million dollar expansion/renovation project.  In 2006, McTavish was named one of Calgary’s Top 40 Under 40 by Calgary Magazine.

 LOU MORIN

Lou (Marie-Louise) Morin has been the General Manager of NeWest Press since April 2007.  To steer the province’s only non-profit book publisher, she draws on 22 years of non-profit sector work.  In 1997 she founded Informatiq Consulting, a firm that has provided database development, information architecture, writing, and editing services to cultural industries.  NeWest Press was recently voted 2010 Alberta Publisher of the Year, a reflection of the many years of dedication, passion, and perseverance that have kept its original publish vision alive.

SUZANNE MOTT

Suzanne Mott has worked with Vertigo theatre in a variety of capacities since 2001:  as a consultant, project coordinator, founder of theatre for young audience series (Y Stage), and since July 2004 as General Manager.  Suzanne’s achievements include successful construction of Vertigo Theatre Centre on time, on budget and without capital debt, successful transition of Vertigo Mystery Theatre from semi-professional to full professional status and Y Stage’s establishment as a premiere presentation series in Western Canada for young audience’s work.

DR. DEAN O’BRIEN

Dr. O’Brien became Music Director Designate of the Calgary Pro Musica Society in 2005 and Artistic Director in 2007.  In 2008, Pro Musica moved its Subscription Series to the Eckhardt-Gramatté Concert Hall in the Rozsa Centre, doubled the number of its performances and attracted over 160 new subscribers.  Pro Musica’s  latest initiative is its Young Artist Development Program, where young Calgary musicians receive exclusive instruction from visiting artists.

SHIRLEY PENNER

Shirley is the Vision, Founder, Artistic Director and CEO of the Youth Singers of Calgary. Under her leadership, YSC has grown from 28 Junior High Students in 1985 to over 500 performers today in 13 divisions.  Shirley has built a strong and resilient arts organization.  In October 2009, 16 months after being evicted from their home of 12 years, YSC officially opened the new Performing Arts Youth Centre.  This 16,000 sq. ft. warehouse was converted into a performance arts space  now shared by YSC and other arts groups in Calgary.

 

Congratulations to the 2009 recipient of the Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management, Tom McFall of the Craft Council of Alberta, and to Gerard Gibbs of the Empress Theatre who was named recipient of the Rozsa Innovation Award.
