About the Jury
2012 ROZSA AWARD JURY MEMBERS
The Rozsa Award Liaison, Brenda-Ann Marks serves as the jury chair. Other jury members include the past two recipients of the Rozsa Award, individuals chosen by the Rozsa Award partners, and other outstanding business leaders.
The jury process is rigorous. Following a well-defined scoring system, each juror independently ranks the candidates. Then the jury meets as a group to explain their choices. Following the discussion, each juror again ranks the candidates. Typically, one candidate receives a unanimous number one ranking. The jury may conduct on-site interviews to further evaluate candidates.
MICHAEL ALLEN
Councillor Mike Allen and his family moved to Fort McMurray in 1993. Since then, he has successfully owned and operated Campbell's Music. In 2001, these successes were recognized when Campbell's Music was named Small Business of the Year by the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce. He is dedicated member of the community who strives to foster strong family values and initiatives that create a sense of community. It is this dedication that has led him to become an active member of the community, a member of numerous boards and clubs and a supporter of even more organizations, charities and events.
Allen served 3 ½ years as President of the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, an organization he is still actively involved in. Additionally, the experience he gained as Treasurer of the Wood Buffalo Housing & Development Corporation provided Allen with the opportunity to serve on the Alberta Premier's Affordable Housing Task Force. He is an adamant supporter of social and affordable housing initiatives in this region.
ALBERT BIZIO
Albert Bizio is a graduate of the University of Alberta with a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering. He also earned an MBA from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary, holds a Certified Management Accountant designation and possesses Project Management Professional status through the Project Management Institute (Pennsylvania). At various times in his 33 year career with the City of Medicine Hat he has held each of the three Municipal Services Commissioner roles, currently serving as Corporate Services Commissioner with responsibilities for Finance, Corporate Asset Management, Computer Services and Land Development. In a past Public Services Commissioner role his responsibilities involved the traditional municipal “soft services” including Cultural Development.

DR TANIA CORBETT
Dr. Tania Corbett is a Senior Principle with the Hay Group in Alberta. She is also the Practice Leader for the Leadership & Talent Practice in that province. She has been helping leaders, leadership teams and organizations develop for almost 15 years. Dr. Corbett specializes in using a variety of tools in order to understand the human drivers that impact organizational success and leveraging these in order to facilitate growth. In every year of her 15 year career, she has conducted over 100 assessments for development or selection purposes for employees at all levels within organizations.
In the last 7 years, Dr. Corbett has been leading projects that involve the design of development programs that help organizations grow and develop their people. These programs typically involve: conducting individual assessment processes, using multi-rater feedback tools, providing feedback to the individual, as well as their leader, and working with both to create an action plan with clear developmental objectives based on strengths as well as areas for development. She uses a number of specific learning strategies within the development plans to ensure that objectives will be met. Development plans are often supported through regular follow-up sessions or formal coaching.
Actual projects, from the last two years, include: 1) In one project, Dr. Corbett facilitated a process wherein the top 35 leaders of an organization completed a 360 feedback process after which they were provided with feedback. They then worked with her to create development plans and were supported through six months of on-site coaching. 2) In another project she conducted in-depth assessments with a six member Executive team, then worked with the individuals and their leaders in order to create development plans and supported them with Executive Coaching.
Dr. Corbett holds a Masters and Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Guelph and an honors B.A. from The University of Western Ontario. She is also a formally trained Executive Coach through the College of Executive Coaches and a member of the College of Alberta Psychologists, as well as the International Coaching Federation. Dr. Corbett is able to deliver feedback sessions and development learning plans in English
Brenda-Ann's career as a fund development professional spans almost twenty years in the arts, education, health and social services sectors. Her passion for the arts led to her appointments at the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, University of Calgary’s Faculty of Fine Arts and The Nickle Arts Museum and Calgary Opera. At present, she is completing a Masters of Arts in Integrated Studies, and consults and volunteers for non-profit organizations specializing in strategic fund development. Brenda-Ann is a member of the Board of Directors of the Rozsa Foundation.
ALEC MILNE
Alec is a Principal and Financial Analyst with Framework Partners Inc. with broad experience in domestic and international consulting. His passion for an analytical approach toward problem solving has earned him a 20 year reputation for quality and service in economic valuations, project planning and implementation, analytical studies, business plans, satisfaction surveys and market assessment studies. Alec's dedication to clients enables him to deliver practical and effective recommendations within clients' means which guarantees efficient implementation and measurable results. Alec has produced numerous self-help guides providing clients with clear step-by-step approaches to the successful use of analytical tools. Alec holds an MBA, Schulich School of Business and BA (Economics), University of Western Ontario. He is a former varsity basketball player, husband, father of two and eager soccer coach.
SUZANNE MOTT
General Manager of Vertigo Theatre and 2010 recipient of the Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management. Suzanne Mott has worked with Vertigo theatre in a variety of capacities since 2001: as a consultant, project coordinator, founder of theatre for young audience series (Y Stage), and since July 2004 as General Manager. Suzanne’s achievements include successful construction of Vertigo Theatre Centre on time, on budget and without capital debt, successful transition of Vertigo Mystery Theatre from semi-professional to full professional status and Y Stage’s establishment as a premiere presentation series in Western Canada for young audience’s work.
DARRELL PIDNER
Darrell Pidner is currently a Principal with the Provincial Auditor General’s Office where his performance audit portfolio focuses on health and social service issues. Over the past several years he has been fortunate to examine processes serving seniors, children and all Albertans who encounter our health system. Prior to this Darrell was a part of Edmonton’s performing arts community. Over a 20 year period Darrell worked for many of Edmonton’s theatres and festivals providing technical and logistical support. Highlights include production roles at the Citadel Theatre, 5 years as the Associate Producer at the Edmonton International Street Performers Festival, multiple Fridge gigs and many board positions. Darrell is a graduate of the University of Alberta MBA program and holds a Certified Management Accountant designation.
MARILYN SMITH
Marilyn Smith has been the Director of the Southern Alberta Art Gallery since 1999 and is the 2011 Recipient of the Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management. Earlier in her career, Marilyn was awarded the Commissioner’s Medal for Outstanding Contributions to the development of tourism in Yukon when she was the co-owner and producer of Frantic Follies Vaudeville Revue. She has more than 30 years experience in the arts & culture sector in areas such as education, management, public programming and fundraising. From 2008-2010 Marilyn managed the most significant renovation in the gallery’s history with over 6000 square feet of new construction while also implementing a 3 year strategic plan designed to capitalize on the momentum gained from the new face and capacities of the building.
