Grant FAQ's
- I don’t have a charitable registration number yet. Am I still eligible for funding? Could I use the number of a partner organization?
The Rozsa Foundation only funds Calgary-based nonprofit arts organizations that have charitable registration numbers. We absolutely cannot grant funds to an individual or to an organization without their own charitable registration number. *Your organization must have their own Charitable Registration Number - you may not apply for a grant using another organization's number*
- I am working on a project for an organization based outside of Calgary. Am I still eligible for funding?
The primary objective of the Rozsa Foundation is to strengthen local arts organizations. To that end, we only fund Calgary-based non-profit arts organizations through our granting program. The Rozsa Arts Management Awards however, are provincial in scope.
- I would like to speak with a Rozsa Foundation representative to find out if our project might be considered. Can I e-mail a project summary or meet with a Rozsa Foundation representative to discuss a project?
If you have read our granting criteria and believe that your project fits, please submit an online query letter. This way, you will ensure that your request receives full and fair consideration. The online query form has been designed to include all the necessary criteria for the board to make a decision. If additional information is needed, we will contact you.
All meetings and site visits are initiated by the Foundation. Since the Foundation operates with a very small staff, it would be impossible to meet with everyone who would like to discuss a project. Instead, please submit a proposal using our online query letter. The query will be reviewed carefully by our staff and if more information is required, we will contact you.
- I am an individual artist involved in exciting and innovative work. Do I qualify for a grant from the Foundation?
The Rozsa Foundation funds Calgary-based not for profit arts organizations that have charitable registration numbers. We absolutely cannot grant funds to anyone without a charitable registration number. As an individual, you are ineligible for funding.
- We believe our project fits perfectly with the Rozsa Foundation’s funding criteria. Will our grant request be approved?
We are a small family foundation and our resources are finite. Based on the number of qualified applications we receive, requests may be turned down even if the project is a good fit.
- I know I’m not eligible for Rozsa Foundation funding, but can the Foundation recommend other funders?
The Rozsa Foundation works with its grantees to provide value in as many ways as possible, including recommendations for other funders, partners, and potential resources. Since we are a small foundation, these recommendations are restricted to our grantees only.
- I have applied unsuccessfully in the past. Should I apply again?
When an application has been turned down, it may be because your previous grant had just concluded, there were many other worthy requests, or your application was incomplete.
In the first case, the Foundation typically only funds an organization once every three years in order to meet requests from other worthy organizations.
If your application was refused for the other reasons, you are welcome to apply again. Make sure that your query letter is completed in full and the uniqueness of your request is emphasized.
- When should I submit a query letter and how do I know the Rozsa Foundation has received my online query?
Queries may be submitted at any time of the year. It is the Rozsa Foundation’s policy to confirm receipt of online query letters via email within 1 week.
- When will I be contacted regarding the final grant decision?
All grant applicants will be informed of the decision regarding their application following the Board meetings in February and October. At that time, a meeting with the grants officer will be arranged for those successful applicants.
- Would the Foundation consider a funding request for a capital campaign?
The Rozsa Foundation does not provide funding for capital projects. Please do not send literature, invitations or fund development gifts for such projects.
