CENTRE for the PERFORMING ARTS: Community Celebration & Collaboration The first program was the Solstice Beat in 2006 which brought together professional percussionists (primarily drummers) of all ethnic backgrounds from African and Cuban, to native North American to Asian bells. This group of artists led 3000 or more Calgarians assembled in the Olympic Plaza in a grand celebration of the summer solstice. The Foundation provided the seed funding. In 2008, the EPCOR Centre has hosted celebrations for the Mexican community, complete with masks, music and Spanish literature. The Black community festival and ImaginASIAN month are upcoming in 2009. The Rozsa Foundation is solidly behind these creative endeavours which engage new audiences and celebrate diverse artistic expression. |
