ABOUT THE AWARD

The Goal
Created in 2002 by the Rozsa Foundation to honour the philanthropic efforts of Drs. Ted and Lola Rozsa, this significant award is the only one of its kind in Canada. The Rozsa Award celebrates the outstanding achievement of an individual working in the complex profession of arts management, and, at the same time, provides professional development opportunities and  organizational benefits to further refine business practises.

2008 Two New Awards

·         Rozsa Award for Education will be chosen for provision of outstanding  opportunities for audience and/or professional artist development through education in the context of annual performance or exhibition.

·         Rozsa Award for Innovation in Arts Management will be chosen for extraordinary innovation in meeting or exceeding one of the seven criteria.

The Nominee for the Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management must exceed all seven criteria: the Nominee for either the Educational or Innovation Awards must meet all of the seven criteria, but only excel in one of them.

Why Annual Awards in Arts Management?
The partners in the awards program believe that the arts are an integral and necessary component of a healthy community. All arts organizations must be effectively managed to achieve and maintain financial sustainability so they can serve their community well. When outstanding arts managers of today are recognized, the field becomes more attractive for future leaders, and a standard of excellence is established.

How You Can Be Involved
The Rozsa Award represents a partnership of business executives, community volunteers and educational stewards. Participation by additional civic leaders is encouraged either by making in-kind contributions or by making financial donations.  Equally important, is the nomination of potential recipients.

Building the Endowment
In order to perpetuate the awards program, an endowment fund has been established. These restricted funds are managed by Sandstone Asset Management.

Appropriate recognition of these contributions will be designed to meet donors' requirements, and The Rozsa Foundation will issue a tax receipt for the gift.

Income on endowment funds will be permanently restricted to funding this awards program. If, for any reason, the awards program is discontinued, these funds will be held in trust and distributed annually to local arts companies to increase their organizational capacity.
