Award Eligibility, Criteria and Nomination Process                                                                                                                                                                                                     

Award Eligibility

·         A person, not an organization must be nominated.

·         The Rozsa Award is open to any Alberta full-time, salaried CEO, Managing Director or General Manager (or equivalent) of an Alberta not-for-profit arts organization. The size or discipline of the affiliated organization is not a limiting criterion.

·         Nominees may not be employed by Arts Councils or other such organizations that are directly affiliated with and funded by any order of government.

·         Individuals employed by post-secondary educational institutions may not be nominated for their work with students and/or faculties that offer Arts performances or exhibitions

·         The nominee will have been employed full-time by the organization for at least three years.

·         Nominees must be available for an interview by the Rozsa Award Jury.

·         The Award recipient must be available to become a member of the Jury and attend the presentation in the year following their selection. In addition, the recipient must be willing to address public sessions on key management practices during that year, and announce their selection in their season’s brochure.

·         Previous recipients are not eligible for three years following their award.

·         The affiliated arts organization must:                                                                    -have been in business for at least three years                                                      -have a well defined cycle of activities, the content of which must have an arts focus -be an individual company, offering presentations of work by artists or creators of art  to the public, either to participate or to experience: that is, have exhibitions, staged performances or publications of works                                                       -be deemed to make a contribution to the total artistic life of their  community          - employ business processes and practices that reflect ethical principles and values

Seven Award Criteria

The Nominee for the Award for Excellence will have achieved exceptional results in all seven criteria:

1. Encouragement of artistic innovation in the context of achieving positive operating results.           

2. Positive impact upon the financial well-being of the affiliated organization through the development and adoption of a sustainable business model.           

3. Effective contribution to stakeholder engagement; implementation of good governance principles and practices with an appropriate organizational structure (Board, volunteers).

4. Enhancement of the organization’s internal systems and sustainable infrastructure: people, practises, policies, business processes, systems.

5. Implementation of significant strategic alliances or partnerships that have demonstrably strengthened business results.

6. Demonstration of powerful community engagement that has advanced the organization and its interests.

7. Provision of outstanding opportunities for audience and/or professional artist development through education in the context of annual performance or exhibition.

The Nominee for the Rozsa Educational or Innovation Awards must meet all of the seven criteria, but only excel in one of them.

Nominators

The first nominator for each Rozsa Award nomination must be a business that is currently engaged as a supporter of the organization to  which the nominee belongs. The second nominator can be a member of the public, another business, arts organization board member or volunteer. Two (2) nominators are required. Family members and employees of nominees are not permitted to nominate candidates for the Award .

Businesses who submit nominations will be recognized and publicly acknowledged at the Rozsa Award reception.

Nomination process

The nomination process will occur in two stages.

Stage One

The initial stage will include a brief initial nomination submission by the nominators to determine the candidate and organizational eligibility for the Rozsa Award (see nomination form).  All nominees will receive acknowledgement of receipt.

 Note: If you are re-nominating a person who was nominated in the previous 2 years only updated information is required for Stage One.

 Stage Two

Nominators of eligible candidates will be invited to submit detailed information (see nomination form).

 Note: Re-nominations require detailed completion of Stage Two.

·         Only hard copy submissions will be accepted.

Deadlines

Submission deadline for Stage One is Friday, May 30, 2008, 5.00 pm

Submission deadline for Stage Two is Friday, August 15, 2008, 5.00 pm

Note: late submissions will not be considered.

The Rozsa Award Jury reserves the right to contact the nominators, nominee, or company representatives for further information.
