Partners & Impact of the Rozsa Award

Award partners

The Alberta School of Business has been privileged to work with the Rozsa Foundation to bring together the worlds of arts and business and find innovation in the collaboration between these spheres.  We have enjoyed meeting Rozsa Foundation award winners who have taken our Executive Education programs, and our Executive programs have benefited by the experience these gifted arts leaders have brought to the classroom.  Furthermore, the Rozsa Foundation has been instrumental in the success of our MBA strategy course in arts management and leadership.  This year we had nineteen students attend a week long intensive and the quality of conversation in that class and with the powerful guest speakers is actively affecting arts policy discussions in our province.

Award winners also receive the opportunity to attend and network at Alberta School of Business events including the School's Canadian Business Leader Award dinner, the Eric Geddes breakfast lecture series, the Business Alumni Association Golf Tournament, and a speaking opportunity to MBA students. The Alberta School of Business also appoints an arts-savvy alumnus to sit on the Award Jury.

The Banff Centre is the largest arts and creativity incubator on the planet. Our mission is inspiring creativity and our leadership programs equip people who want to change the world with the skills to do so – a mission and mandate that is very well aligned with the Rozsa Foundation. Over 8,000 artists, leaders, and researchers from across Canada and around the world participate in programs at The Banff Centre every year. We are honored to provide the opportunity for one recipient of the Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management Leadership to participate in a leadership program at The Banff Centre. Through this experience, award recipients share their knowledge and expertise with, and to learn from, a diverse group of leaders from all sectors in a multidisciplinary setting. Our aim is to support these leaders in building their capacity to face increasing complexity and change, while keeping their organizations ahead of the curve.

CKUA logoEach year, CKUA Radio Network, in partnership with the Rozsa Foundation, produces and broadcasts throughout Alberta and world-wide via the Internet, a series of vignettes profiling the nominees for the Rozsa Awards for Excellence in Arts Management. The vignettes are designed to celebrate the awards and also the Arts administrators who are doing exciting and innovative work in their field, ultimately creating success stories in the Arts and making Alberta a better place to live and work. The Awards themselves are emceed by CKUA Executive Producer, Brian Dunsmore.

CKUA is proud to support the Rozsa Awards – Canada’s leading Arts Management recognition and promotion program. Like the Rozsa Foundation and its founders, Drs. Ted and Lola Rozsa, CKUA believes in the value and indeed the critical importance of the Arts in life. CKUA values and supports The Rozsa Awards not only because they recognize the often unheralded achievements of Alberta’s leading Arts administrators, but also because they provide significant professional development opportunities and critical funding support in a sector where such things can be difficult to attain.

We recognize the importance of ensuring that our arts community is prosperous whether it be in creation or business.

At the Haskayne School of Business, one of our strategic pillars is entrepreneurial thinking. The arts sector displays every aspect of what it means to be an entrepreneur from making do with what you have (usually not much), willingness to share resources, and convincing others to volunteer. We get to live what we teach by spending time with arts managers: you push us to be better at our day jobs. For these reasons, we are pleased to support the initiatives of the Foundation including the Award.

Art organizations are always short on resources and always have to do more with less.  Inevitably a critical part of the organization’s technology infrastructure tends to fall by the way side.  As a technology firm, VBS saw a need to step in and consult with the Rozsa Award Recipient Organization, identify their technology needs, and provide strategic guidance to maintaining the critical parts of the technology infrastructure.  VBS will also provide and roll out some much needed computer hardware.

We believe that with faster and better computers the staff at the Art Organization is able to achieve more and have one less thing to worry about!

Impact of the Rozsa Awards

"Receiving the Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Administration is quite unlike any other such recognition. For the past year I have been immersed in the Rozsa Award. Not only does one receive the accolades this honor implies but one lives the award for the entire year. The benefits of the award have touched every corner of my organization providing immediate and long-term payback and have also enhanced my capacity as an effective member of the cultural sector."

— Marilyn Smith, 2011 Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management

"The Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management has had an immediate and lasting positive effect on the Art Gallery of Alberta and on my own approach to leadership within that organization."

 — Tony Luppino, 2007 Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management

"Decidedly Jazz used the Rozsa Award funds towards our Customer Relations Management program. We were successful in refining our strategic marketing plan; making considerable and valuable investment in developing and building the capacity and core competency of our Marketing/Development staff and gained immense insight through the research we conducted. On the consulting side, the expert legal opinion rendered has enabled us to deal with the changes to the Canada Revenue act which directly effected our HR practises. I thank you personally and on behalf of Decidedly Jazz for what the Award has helped us to achieve."

— Kathi Sundstrom, 2005 Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management
