Carol Holmes - Executive Director - Writer's Guild of Alberta
Also shortlisted in 2017 for the Rozsa Award of Excellence in Arts Management, Carol is known for advocating for the rights of writers and addressing real issues of diversity, equity, copyright, and compensation.
In her role as Executive Director, Carol has created new and innovative programs for the guild and has successfully stabilized the organization while providing inspiring and productive environments for members of the Writer’s Guild of Alberta as well as staff of the organization.
Sara Leishman - Executive Director - Folk Festival Society of Calgary
Said to be a leader who “transforms with grace”, Sara Leishman is known to be a deeply grounded director with a strong commitment to values and long-term thinking around how to develop her organization.
As the initiator of Block Heater and Festival Hall, in her time as Executive Director, Sara Leishman has not only transformed the structure of the organization, turning Calgary Folk Music Festival into a year-round organization but has also reduced the organization debt down by $300 000.
Brendan Lord - Executive Director - Choir Alberta
Brendan Lord is a leader who has had a large impact on the choral community in Alberta. He is recognized for his unique blend of artistic and administrative abilities, acts as a facilitator for many choir organizations in the province and is recognized for his ability to expand the choral network into new communities. Dr Lord has also created significant strategic alliance in Alberta through his work on the Music Conference Alberta, the premier professional development opportunity for music educators in the province.

Cindy Andrew - Board Chair - CKUA Radio Network
Having joined the board in 2017, Cindy Andrew is hailed as a leader responsible for transformational change within the board of directors as well as the organization.
In her time, Cindy has been recognized for her solid efforts in the recruitment of a new CEO following the conclusion of an 18-year tenure of the previous CEO.
Cindy’s business acumen has been highlighted as providing significant contribution toward CKUA’s continued evolution and success as one of Alberta’s oldest arts and culture institutions.
Wendy Dupree - Board Chair - Citadel Theatre
Upon election as Board Chair in October 2017, Wendy Dupree has helped to lead the organization in the selection and transition of new Artistic and Executive leadership after two very long-term leaders’ departures.
Wendy has also led the Citadel Theatre with addressing some very large, very public disclosures about historical harassment and abusive behaviour of past leadership. Wendy’s engagement has led to a strengthened relationship with the Citadel Theatre community, transparent processes, improved governance and confidence in The Citadel’s role as a leader in creating a safe and respectful space to create theatre.
Tara Owen - Board Chair - Alberta Craft Council
Tara Owen is a national leader recognized for her ability to connect people to her organization. Through her leadership, Tara was able to expand the Alberta Craft Council location from Edmonton to Calgary at the innovative cSPACE King Edward.
While in the final stages of opening the new quarters, ACC’s Executive Director of twenty years announced that he had decided to retire.
Through this stage, Tara was responsible for replacing the ED of the organization not once but twice, as well as develop new governance processes for the organization.
