The Rozsa Foundation, in partnership with the University of Calgary-Haskayne Executive Education, has been offering the Rozsa Arts Management Program (RAMP) to the Calgary arts community for eight years . During those eight years, it has been tweaked, turned, shaped, stretched, and refined. This year is no exception.
In addition to learning how we might provide RAMP online, we have been asking ourselves: how is the arts sector changing; what skills do arts managers need right now and for the future; what is the changing nature of the work of arts managers; what is the value of the arts during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond; and how are we listening and being responsive as arts managers to the relationships we have with the earth, each other, and ourselves?
We believe these questions are important for arts managers to explore, and decided to continue offering the Rozsa Arts Management Program by moving it online for the first time. Going online also means that arts managers outside of Calgary will be able to take the program from home in both a synchronous (real time) and asynchronous (on your own time) learning environment. For those who took our Rozsa Admin Fundamentals Training (RAFT) program in Edmonton and more recently Lethbridge over the last 4 years, we are excited that we can now offer RAMP as the next step in your career development.
There are more firsts in this coming year. For the first time, we will be offering both Haskayne-led and Rozsa-led sessions. What does that mean? In the past, we have invited arts professionals (artists, arts managers, and arts consultants) into our Haskayne sessions as guests. This coming year, Alberta arts professionals will be the lead faculty on 5 new sessions: reconciliation, arts advocacy, community engagement, fund development, and board/staff relationships. The Haskayne-led sessions will include leadership, team management, marketing and audience development, finance, and strategic planning. The field of arts management is multidisciplinary, and we believe it is important to have multiple perspectives from business and arts experts.
Maybe you are thinking that all sounds great, but is this the right time to start a professional development program in arts management? Whether you are working, not working, transitioning jobs, or wondering what your next steps are in the arts – RAMP will provide you with a deep dive into arts management topics, valuable management tools, a cohort of peers, a project to address a challenge facing you/your organization, access to faculty and their expertise, experience with presenting, as well as some casual networking opportunities.

RAMP applications are due by Friday, August 7, 2020. There are limited spaces available for this program. Because the program is open to arts administrators outside of Calgary, we encourage you to get your applications in early to secure a spot!
